Beyond Excel Connection Design: Integrated ETABS–IDEA StatiCa Workflows
INTRODUCTION
Modern structural design requires faster, clearer, and more reliable verification of complex steel connections and RC details beyond conventional spreadsheet checks.
This 4-hour technical workshop introduces modern, integrated workflows using ETABS and IDEA StatiCa to support advanced structural analysis, steel connection design, and complex reinforced concrete detailing. Participants will explore how global finite element analysis results can be linked to detailed connection and member verification using advanced methods such as Component-Based Finite Element Method (CBFEM) and Compatible Stress Field Method (CSFM).
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
- Structural engineers involved in steel connection design, RC detailing, and code compliance
- Consultants using ETABS, Excel spreadsheets, or manual checks for structural design
- Senior engineers, design managers, and teams seeking a more integrated workflow from global analysis to detailed verification
4-HOUR WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
By the end of this workshop, engineers will be able to:
- Understand practical applications of FEM, CBFEM, and CSFM in structural design
- Compare Excel/manual checks with integrated IDEA StatiCa workflows
- Apply Direct Analysis Method (DAM) concepts for modern steel frame design
- Appreciate the effect of semi-rigid connections and tension-only bracing on frame behaviour
- Link ETABS global analysis results to IDEA StatiCa for steel connection checks
- Review complex steel and RC examples using code-based, visual, and traceable verification
